Born on July 27, 2002, in Kandulimari village, Bokakhat division, Golaghat district, Assam, Uma Chetry grew up playing cricket with her brother Bijoy Chetry and other boys in her neighborhood. Her mother encouraged her passion for the game, setting her on a path to professional cricket.
Her breakthrough moment came in June 2023, when she played for India A in the ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup. A month later, in July 2023, she received her maiden call-up to India’s T20I squad for the Bangladesh series.
