Two more Assam Civil Services (ACS) officers have been arrested in connection with the APSC ‘cash-for-job’ scam.

The arrested officers have been identified as Shah Jahan Sarkar and Aishwarya Jeevan Barua.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had launched operation at different locations on Tuesday night and arrested the two officers.

As per inputs, the arrested officers were brought to Guwahati by SIT that was constituted to probe the scam.

Earlier this month, the Government of Assam had initiated departmental proceedings against 34 Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and other elite service officers selected by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) for 2013 batch.

The state government had swung into action based on the one-man commission report of Retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma.

Appointments of the 2013 and 2014 APSC batches have been marred by controversies.

The then chairperson of APSC, Rakesh Paul, the prime accused in the APSC “cash-for-job” scam, has been in jail since 2016.

The state government has so far dismissed 57 persons who were selected in the civil service exams in 2013 and 2014.
