Vehement protests were seen across the state as members of the Kamrup district youth Congress, while expressing their anger against the lapse of appropriate safety measures for women in the state, burnt an effigy of the Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain in Guwahati’s Maligaon. Protests were also seen at the Sivasagar railway station.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State Rajen Gohain, who is also an MP from Assam skipped a scheduled event in Guwahati today. Gohain who was slated to attend an officers’ committee meet of the Railways, did not show up for the meet.

Though the Railways has ordered a high level inquiry into the sensational murders of two women on moving trains in the state that had sent shock waves and triggered unprecedented protests, its top officials are evading questions on the issues of security concerning passengers.

A top NF Railway official refused to respond when asked by Northeast Live on whether the twin murders exposed a major security lapse on the part of the railways. NF Railway general manager Sanjive Roy shied away when quizzed by Northeast Live on the issue.
