Aiming to give a big boost to the tourism sector in Assam, State tourism minister Bimal Borah on Saturday flagged off the state-of-the-art Vistadome tourist special train that will ply on the Guwahati-Haflong section of the railway zone.

Taking to Twitter, Borah tweeted, “Glad to flag off the Vista Dome Tourist Special Train between Guwahati and New Haflong today morning in presence of Hon’ble MP Smt. @oja_queen baideu & other senior officials at Guwahati Railway Station.”

The rail service from Guwahati to New Haflong will be available every Saturday and Wednesday.

Vistadomes are special coaches of the Indian Railway, with glass ceilings and large windows to provide a better view of the surrounding landscape.

On Friday, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officially introduced the special tourist train with Vistadome coaches for the Dooars region in North Bengal to attract tourists and to bring in development in the region’s tourism industry.

The train will cover a total of 168 km long route from New Jalpaiguri to Alipurduar station initially thrice a week on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The 360-degree viewing system of the special Vistadome coaches will allow passengers to have a great view of the surroundings and its large windows and transparent plexiglass roofs will ensure that tourists enjoy the scenic beauty of the Dooars, known for its rich flora and fauna.

Along with Wi-Fi services, the coaches will have automatic sliding doors, LED display boards and bio-toilets.
