Assam to Become First Indian State to Launch Its Own Satellite, ‘ASSAMSAT’

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the mission is in its initial phase at an estimated cost of Rs 500- Rs 600 crore.
Assam is set to make history by becoming the first Indian state to launch its own satellite. The Assam government, in its 2025-26 Budget presented by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, has proposed the establishment of ASSAMSAT, a satellite that will specifically cater to the needs of Assam.
ASSAMSAT: The project will be executed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in collaboration with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe), under the Ministry of Space.
Speaking to the media after the budget presentation in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the mission is in its initial phase at an estimated cost of Rs 500- Rs 600 crore. Once launched, ASSAMSAT will provide real-time data that will help Assam prepare better ahead of the flood season, help farmers and also manage borders with the neighbouring states.
