Assam student battling for life after alleged assault in Australia

In a shocking incident, a student from Assam studying in Australia is in coma after he was allegedly assaulted on November 5, according to reports.
The incident took place at a precinct in Tasmania.
The student suffered from ‘extradural bleeding’, a condition where bleeding occurs between the inner surface of the skull and the outer layer of the brain, according to the report by Sydney-based Special Broadcasting Service.
This traumatic injury was compounded by the collapse of his right lung, requiring an emergency brain surgery that lasted several hours.
A 25-year-old man was arrested in the case shortly after the assault.
The accused, Benjamin Dodge Collings, faces serious legal repercussions as he has been charged with criminal code assault, which could result in a maximum sentence of 21 years if convicted, reports said.
Following his arrest, Collings was granted bail by a magistrate and is expected to appear in court on December 4.
The victim student was studying for his master’s degree at the University of Tasmania. The university said that it is taking steps to support the student and his family during this time.
