First Published: 4th February, 2025 13:47 IST

With the latest arrest, the STF Assam has now apprehended a total of 15 jihadi operatives from Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala.

In an ongoing effort to dismantle jihadi networks, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police have made another significant arrest in Kokrajhar district today, further tightening their grip on extremist elements.

The jihadi terror operative has been identified as Nasim Uddin, an active member of the Bangladesh based terror outfit Ansar Ul Bangla Team.

With the latest arrest, the STF Assam has now apprehended a total of 15 jihadi operatives from Assam, West Bengal, and Kerala.

On January 21, the STF arrested Ajibar Rahman (31), a resident of Chinamari Village in Bilasipara.

On January 19, the STF arrested Jaher Ali who had been operating under the guise of an auto-rickshaw driver in Bilasipara, Dhubri.

On December 30, 2024, the STF has arrested 35-year-old Gazi Rahman, a resident of Bhodeyaguri, Kokrajhar, the prime accused in the terror plot planning to attack RSS and other Hindu organisation leaders, from the Kokrajhar district.

Earlier in December 2024, a nationwide intelligence-led operation, involving the active cooperation of West Bengal and Kerala Police, led to the arrest of 8 fundamentalist jihadis, including one Bangladeshi national from Kerala.

This operation uncovered a terror module plotting attacks in India.
On December 25, 2024, the STF Assam carried out a raid and search operation with the help of Kokrajhar Police at Namapara and arrested 2 persons identified as Abdul Zaher Sheikh and Sabbir Mirdha.

On December 27, police arrested a member of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), a Bangladesh-based terrorist organisation from Dhubri district.
The apprehended person was identified as 36-year-old Shahinur Islam of the Bilasipara area in Dhubri.

These individuals were reportedly operating under the direction of Md. Farhan Israk, an associate of Jasimuddin Rahmani, Chief of Ansrullah Bangla Team.

The group had also sent a Bangladeshi national, Md. Sad Radi, to India to propagate their extremist ideology. Evidence suggests that their activities were aimed at promoting extremist operations to destabilize the country’s security and sovereignty.

So far, a total of 15 extremists have been arrested, and investigations are ongoing to expose the full extent of the network.
