The menace of speeding dumpers continues unabated in Assam, claiming at least 2 lives within just 24 hours.

A woman who was out on morning walk was run over by a speeding, earth-laden dumper near Bhuktabari in Darrang district’s Sipajhar area.

The dumper lost control after hitting the woman and overturned on the Ghorabondha-Gorukhuti road.

The victim has been identified as Minakshi Devi, aged around 40, who leaves behind two daughters. Locals allege that reckless driving by dumpers has become a recurring threat, and repeated appeals to the administration have gone unheard.

While talking to the media, a grieving family member said, “We won’t allow dumpers on this road anymore. They’re creating terror. The woman killed was my sister-in-law, and the family is very poor. Who will care for her daughters now? The administration or dumper owner must offer compensation.”

In another fatal mishap, a young biker named Rana Kandali from Komargaon Bosapathar village died on the spot after being hit by a speeding dumper on National Highway 39 at Numaligarh early morning today. However, the vehicle fled the scene.

Meanwhile, in Silchar, a home guard is battling for his life at Silchar Medical College Hospital after being hit by another speeding dumper on Silchar-Kalain Road.
