Assam reports first HMPV case, 10-month-old child tests positive in Dibrugarh

Amid a nation wide alert over emergence of HMPV cases, the first case of HMPV from Assam for the 2025 season was detected in a 10-month child admitte to AMCH in Dibrugarh. As per inputs the case was detected during routing HMPV screening at the Regional VRDL Laboratory ICMR-RMRC. Since 2014, the lab has reported over 100 cases of HMPV from Dibrugarh. Meanwhile, Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal has clarified that the Human Meta-neumo-virus is not a new virus. He assured that the state government is fully prepared to implement necessary measures in line with the advisories issued by the Centre.
