Nature’s fury has shown no signs of slowing down in the region as a massive landslide has occurred on the National Highway-6 connecting Guwahati and Barak, causing major disruptions in traffic movement.

The landslide occurred due to heavy rainfall in Kuliang in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district, approximately 68 km from Silchar.

According to inputs, stones and rocks from minor landslides are still falling from the hillside, disrupting road repair works. A cargo truck was reportedly left stuck in the landslide.

Following the landslide, hundreds of vehicles are stranded on the highway, leading to distress among the travelers.

Vehicular movement has come to a halt because of the landslide, and rescue work is ongoing, however, the situation continues to remain precarious, authorities informed.

However, NH 6 is the crucial highway that connects Barak Valley, Mizoram, Tripura, and parts of Manipur with the rest of the country.
