Olympic bronze-medalist & Assam’s first to do so, Lovlina Borgohain has been selected in the Indian women’s boxing team for this year’s Asian Games in China’s Hangzhou after emerging victorious in the trials.
Apart from Lovlina, former junior world champion Nikhat Zareen has also been selected for the global sporting event.
While Zareen secured her place in the 51kg division, Lovlina clinched the 69kg spot after trials held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
The duo also made it to the world championships squad with Zareen qualifying in the 52kg category and Lovlina making the cut in 70kg.
In the Asian Games trial finals, Lovlina defeated Railways’ boxer Pooja, and Zareen got the better of Manju Rani, a silver-medallist from the 2019 World Championships.
