CEM, KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang assured that if the Court allows it, then they will start the eviction as soon as possible.
The situation turned extremely volatile in Diphu in Assam’s hill district Karbi Anglong when police resorted to blank firing and lathi charges to stop protesters trying to storm the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council headquarters pressing for their demand to immediately evict illegal settlers from the Professional Grazing Reserved (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserved (VGR) land in Karbi Anglong.
Hundreds of protesters under the banner of the Karbi Students Association and various other organizations marched towards the KAAC headquarters to press for their demands this morning.
When the protestors attempted to storm the headquarters of the KAAC, police resorted to blank firing and lathi charges to stop them.
During this, many protestors were injured, and they are now undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital.
As the protest erupted today, Chief Executive Membe (CEM) the KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang visited the site and assured that if the Court allows it, then they will start the eviction as soon as possible.
The KAAC had previously served eviction notices to approximately 10,000 people accused of illegally settling on the reserved grazing lands in the Sixth Scheduled districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong. However, the eviction process has been delayed as the matter is sub judice.
