Assam: Popular singer Vitali Das succumbs to Coronavirus

Popular Assamese singer Vitali Das, who tested positive for COVID-19, breathed her last in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Vitali Das, who tested positive for Coronavirus on April 14, was undergoing treatment at the Kalapahar Covid hospital. She was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after developing difficulties in breathing.

Das’ condition turned critical on Wednesday morning and was under ventilation. 

“This is a very tragic news. Vitali Das is no more. She passed away at 7:05 pm. As her COVID-19 test results came back negative, we have decided to hand over her body to her family,” informed GMCH Superintendent Abhijeet Sarma.

According to reports, Vitali Das contracted the virus while performing during a Bihu function at Latasil playground in Guwahati.

She is survived by her husband and a daughter. 

Meanwhile, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also expressed his grief over the demise of the popular vocalist.

“With great sorrow I would like to inform you that popular vocalist Shri Vitaly Das breathed his last this evening after suffering from Covid-19. She was also suffering from diabetes. My prayers to the departed soul and extend my condolences to the bereaved family,” Sarma tweeted.

The veteran singer’s death has been reported amid massive surge in COVID-19 cases across the state. The district administration has imposed a series of curbs to contain the spread of the virus.
