Assam Police is also planning to establish specialized cybercrime police stations in districts with higher incidents of cyber offenses.
The Assam Police has finalized plans to set up a Regional Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in the state. The decision comes after a large number of people falling prey to cybercrimes and online trading scams and losing crores of rupees. Funded by the Government of India, the center is expected to become operational soon.
In addition to the coordination center, Assam Police is also planning to establish specialized cybercrime police stations in districts with higher incidents of cyber offenses.
The Assam Police actively participates in the Cyber Tipline, a cybercrime reporting portal, and the 1930 helpline initiative. Collaborating with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Assam Police aims not only to track down cybercriminals but also to enhance the skills of its cyber investigators.
Meanwhile, the owner of DB Stocks and Consultancy and alleged kingpin of the multi-crore online trading scam, Dipankar Barman, has been remanded to seven days of police custody by the District and Sessions Court in Guwahati yesterday. Barman was brought before the Sessions Court after being produced in the CJM court earlier the same day.
While the police requested 14-day custody, the court granted only seven days. Additionally, eight other individuals accused in the online trading scams in Assam, including Bihsal Phukan, Sumi Bora, Tarkik Bora, and Ranjit Kakoti, have been remanded to three days in custody by a special CBI court in Guwahati. They are scheduled to appear before the CBI court again on Saturday.
