Assam Police busts phone banking racket, 3 arrested

Three individuals from Siliguri, West Bengal, accused of impersonating phone banking officials arrested

In a major crackdown on cyber crime, the Assam Police arrested three persons from Siliguri in West Bengal for allegedly posing as phone banking officials and duping people to the tune of lakhs of rupees. The trio targeted people across the country and had duped people in Assam too.

The three cyber crime accused had duped a retired government official from Assam’s Pathshala of Rs 30 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Tamej-uddin, Mushtakim Mishra and Afzal Ansari – all hailing from Jharkhand.

The police also seized mobile phones and 11 ATM cards.

The trio allegedly targeted people across the country, lured them with fake bank accounts and even provided passbooks, and subsequently robbed them of several lakhs of rupees.
