Assam is all set to go for the Panchayat elections in two phases on scheduled on December 5 and 9 respectively.

The counting of votes would be held on December 12. In the first phase, the rural polls would be held in Kamrup (Metropolitan) and 16 other districts in Eastern Assam.

On the other hand, 10 districts in Barak valley and rest of Assam will go to elections in the second phase.

Out of the total, 23,505 polling stations, 8,243 centres have been identified as sensitive. A total of 1 crore 56 lakh 456 voters will exercise their franchise in the rural body polls.

Disclosing this, state election commissioner Harendra Nath Bora further maintained that the model code of conduct has already come into effect with the announcing of the election dates.

Meanwhile, candidates contesting for the Zila Parishad member will be entitled for an election expense not exceeding more than Rs 6.40 lakh, while those contesting for the post of Gaon Panchayat president will spend Rs 1.60 lakh, whereas those contesting for the post of Panchayat member will be entitled to spend Rs 16,000.
