Assam: On duty APDCL officials assaulted by mob in Dhubri, 3 arrested

In a shocking turn of events, an Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) team was attacked by a mob during an operation against illegal connection of electric motors in Assam’s Dhubri district. Two persons, including a sub-divisional engineer Manzoorul Haque were critically injured in the attack.
The incident took place on Thursday evening at Dumardalta village in Gauripur, Dhubri district.
According to the officials, they visited the village for regular checking, when hooking of electric motor was detected at the premises of one named Asraf Ali.
On asking for their electricity bill if any, Asraf Ali not only refused to give the bill, but also abused them with abusive languages.
When the APDCL team tried to aware them about the power theft, the mob snatched one of the official’s mobile phone and attacked the team with thick wooden plank and continued to beat up until the local police arrived the spot.The mob also threatened to kill all APDCL staff present there, Manzoorul Haque stated in the FIR, he lodged in the Gauripur Police Staton.
After police reached the spot, the miscreants flee the spot immidiately before police could nap them.
The injured officials of the power utility were rushed to a nearby hospital by the police.
Manzoorul Haque is now undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and his condition is said to be critical.
So far threed persons involved in the attack on APDCL team have been arrested by Dhubri Police. An investigation into the matter in underway.
Assam DGP GP Singh has instructed the Dhubri Police to take lawful action against the incident and assured that rest invloved in the crime would be arrested soon.
“Reference assault on APDCL officials at Balajan under Gauripur Police station – @Dhubri_Police has been instructed to take lawful action. Three accused persons have already been arrested. Rest would be arrested soon. No one would be spared who assaults a government officer on duty,” GP Singh tweeted.
Asraf Ali, Mozidur Sk, Afizur Rahman, Hafizur, Jo Sarfat Ali and Nulu Sheikh were among others who were involved in the incident, sub-divisional engineer Manzoorul Haque stated in the FIR.
