Officer-in-charge of the Burha Police Station and prime accused in the inhuman torture case, Mahendra Sarma and co-accused, lady police constable Binita Boro has been suspended.
Sarma had been the head of the team from the Burha police station that allegedly picked up three sisters and a brother-in-law of an accused from Guwahati on September 8 and allegedly physically tortured them the entire night.
The police officials further did not even spare a pregnant woman. Police had picked up the victims, as the brother of the three sisters had allegedly kidnapped a girl.
An FIR has been lodged with the Darrang Police, based on which Sarma and his associate have been suspended as of now.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered for an inquiry into the case and according to reports it will be carried out in the supervision of Western Range DIG Brojenjit Singha.
