Almost 48 hours have passed, but there is still no trace of the three ONGC officials who were kidnapped in Assam’s Charaideo district.
Although, security forces have accelerated their search operations in the region, there is still no clue about the whereabouts of the three ONGC officials who were abducted by suspected ULFA-Independent militants from an oil rig site at Lakwa in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Sources revealed to Northeast Live that the Army is conducting counter insurgency operations in the areas along the Assam-Nagaland inter-state border.
There are strong suspicion’s however that the militants may have whisked away the kidnapped individuals via Nagaland’s Mon district into neighbouring Myanmar, where ULFA-I is believed to have its base.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has given strict instructions to find out the kindapped ONGC officials. Additional DGP (Law & Order) is monitoring the whole situation and search operations.
Sources have also revealed that some active members of the ULFA-I have also been picked up in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts by the security forces for questioning in this regard.
The three kidnapped ONGC officials are Mohini Mohan Gogoi (junior technician), Ritul Saikia (junior technician) and Alakesh Saikia (junior engineering assistant). Eyewitnesses stated that a group of five men armed with weapons arrived at the spot and took away the three ONGC officials after threatening the security guards at the spot not to interfere.
This is the second major kidnapping after the recent case of ULFA-I kidnapping two Quippo company officials.
