The Centre has confirmed that Assam & Meghalaya have agreed to resolve the interstate border dispute in 6 areas of differences.
Union minister of state for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai today informed the Rajya Sabha that the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya have agreed for permanent settlement of the inter-state boundary in the 6 areas. Rai also informed that the approach of the centre has consistently been that the inter-state boundary issues be resolved only with the co-operation of state governments concerned. The Union Minister further said that the Centre acts as a facilitator for amicable settlement of boundary issues in spirit of mutual co-operation.
Nityanand Rai informed that discussions have been going on at various levels between both the states to arrive an amicable solution to the border issue.
This confirmation from the Centre comes at a time when both states are expected to sign an agreement on March 27 following a nod from the MHA. While this was informed by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, as per inputs, the official invite is yet to come from the MHA.
