Assam-Meghalaya border talks: CMs likely to meet in Guwahati

The second phase of the Assam-Meghalaya border dialogue will probably get underway tomorrow, with Chief Ministers of respective states most likely to hold a meet in Guwahati and initiate dialogues on the remaining six areas of difference.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma are likely to meet in Guwahati on Sunday and after the meeting, the Chief Ministers will go to their respective states and notify the Regional Committees.

Tynsong stated the government is committed to starting the second phase of the border dialogue and committed to seeing the resolution of the interstate border issue with Assam.

He further added the party will not go back on the MoU even if they are alone. It needs to be mentioned here that the Memorandum of Understanding for the six areas of difference was signed in March.

Earlier, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had informed that the second phase of the Meghalaya-Assam border talks will begin after August 15.
