The Chairman of both the Regional Committee for Assam and Meghalaya to visit Khanduli village tomorrow

In a bid to address the tensions between the Karbi and Pnar communities over an alleged illegal check gate set up by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, announced a joint visit to Khanduli village. The village has become a focal point in the conflict, with both sides locked in a dispute that has persisted for weeks.

The Chairman of both the Regional Committees – for Assam, Pijush Hazarika, and the Chairman of the Meghalaya Regional Committee, Sniawbhalang Dhar, are scheduled to visit Khanduli tomorrow to hold talks and ease the situation.

The ongoing issue and its implications have spurred concerns, necessitating a collaborative approach to find a viable solution.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized the significance of the investigation, currently being carried out by a judiciary commission established by Meghalaya. “All the activities are going on as per the investigation,” Sangma stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to pursuing a comprehensive inquiry. He assured the public that the investigation would persist until a conclusive report is obtained.

Addressing the talks between Meghalaya and Assam, Sangma acknowledged the long-standing nature of the border issue. He highlighted the unprecedented effort by the current government to address the matter, resulting in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) being reached for six specific locations. Sangma conveyed his optimism for the forthcoming talks and surveys, aimed at reaching a lasting solution for the remaining six locations as well.

“We have to remember that these are complicated matters and we would like to find a quick solution to it but that’s not how things work,” Sangma emphasized. He stressed the importance of involving all stakeholders and conducting thorough discussions to arrive at an amicable resolution.
