The chief of the Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), KP Pangiang, has expressed reservations about Assam and Meghalaya resolving their border dispute and reaching a final solution in six identified areas of disagreement before the statehood day celebration on January 21st.

He added that although the Chief Ministers of both the states have met time and again, it is unlikely that both the states will be able to declare a settlement on the decade-long border dispute soon.

Pangiang said that with the wisdom and positive response of both the Chief Ministers, along with the intervention of the Centre, he is hopeful that the settlement of the inter-state border dispute could see the light of the day.

The Hills State People’s Democratic Party chief further maintained that finding an immediate solution is a tough task and that both states must consider all aspects thoroughly and steadily for an amicable and final settlement on the border row.
