Meghalaya: Committee on inter-state border dispute with Assam to submit report

One of the three regional Committees constituted by the Meghalaya government to resolve decades-long boundary dispute with Assam will submit it’s reports to the State Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today.

This was informed by CM Sangma yesterday.

Two other regional Committee will be submitting their reports to the Chief Minister soon.

The regional committees have been formed to examine the present status of the six areas of differences Tarabari, Gizang and Hahim in West Khasi Hills district, Boklapara and Khanapara-Pilingkata in Ri Bhoi district, and Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills district.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister further reiterated that after the filing of the report by the Regional Committee, discussions would be held with political parties, concerned stakeholders representing the areas of dispute.

When asked if the border issue would be resolved by this year, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said he is optimistic that efforts may yield results in at least some of the areas out of the total six areas of dispute which are being covered in the first phase.

The regional committees are headed by cabinet-level ministers.
