In a significant development, Assam Police have arrested the man behind the inhumane act who beat to death a dog in front of her puppies just because the lactating dog killed and ate a chicken from his farm.
The arrestee has been identified as Divyajyoti Saikia alias Dadul, a resident of Hatigaon village in Puranigodam Mikirhat in Assam’s Nogaon.
It needs to be mentioned that, the arrest led to the protest by the local women demanding action against Saikia.
The heartbreaking incident took place yesterday when Divyajyoti, the owner of a broiler chicken farm, beat to death a female dog in front of her puppies.
The dog was desperate for food after giving birth to five puppies, and she ventured into the broiler farm and ate a chicken. This simple act of survival led to the youth, Divya Jyoti Saikia alias Dadul Nath, brutally beating the dog to death.
What followed next was even more heart-wrenching, as the dog’s puppies were seen wandering around her lifeless body, their cries of hunger and despair, sad and unbearable.
This shocking act prompted local women to stage a protest, demanding action against Saikia. Their demand highlights an important aspect of our legal system: under Section 428 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), causing harm to animals is a punishable offence, with a maximum penalty of two years in prison. It is crucial to ensure such laws are enforced to prevent such heinous acts from becoming commonplace.
