Assam LS Polls: Two candidates file nominations for Kokrajhar constituency

Congress candidate Garjan Mashahary and Jatish Kumar Das of Oboro Suraksha Samiti filed their nominations for the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat in Assam on Wednesday. Kokrajhar will go to polls in the third phase on May 7.

Before filing the nomination papers for its candidate Garjan Mushahary, the Congress party organised a mass public rally at Swarang High School grounds in Hatimatha, Kokrajhar city which was attended by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhupen Bora, Assam Congress incharge Jitendra Singh among several other Congress leaders.

While addressing the public meeting the APCC president Bhupen Bora urged the voters of Kokrajhar to vote in support of the grand old party, Congress highlighting the contributions and the dedication of the candidate Garjan Mushahary and the party towards the people. He further took snide dig at the UPPL and BPF party alleging them of doing corruption in the BTR area.

Speaking to the media, the APCC in-charge Jitendra Singh took a jibe at the BJP party, stating that the ruling government has spread false promises to curb the problems of the ST, SC, farmers or the tea tribe people. He alleged the BJP government of only focusing on big companies and industries.

Moreover, he added that Congress party will contest all the elections alone in the Kokrajhar, BTR area. He further said that UPPL and BPF have become the agents of BJP.

After the meeting, Congress candidate Garjan Mashahary filed his nomination papers at the office of the District Returning Officer.

Addressing the media, Congress candidate Garjan Mashahary exuded confidence of winning the Kokrajhar seat. He expressed his gratitude towards the people for their love and support and said that his party has tried to reach the people in every corner of the state in order to establish a good bond.

Speaking to the media, Oboro Suraksha Samiti candidate Jatish Kumar Das stressed upon the necessity to take adequate measures to solve the land problems of the people of the BTR area.

He further exuded confidence that the people of BTC will choose him as their representative.

It is to be mentioned that Kokrajhar will be going for polls in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to take place on May 7 along with Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri. The second phase of polls will be held on April 26 which will cover five parliamentary constituencies of Assam.
