Irked by the indifference of the concerned authorities, locals in Assam’s Silchar town took things into their own hands, volunteering to fill potholes in the Silchar-Hailakandi Road.
The Silchar-Hailakandi road connects the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, NIT Silchar, and Assam University.
The most important and busiest stretch of the road, from Shivalik Park to South City Hospital, was in bad shape, causing severe inconvenience to commuters.
Locals complained that the area faces a lot of traffic congestion because of the potholes, often causing immense difficulties to the patients who come from Tripura, Mizoram, and other parts of the Barak valley and visit Silchar Medical College & Hospital for treatment.
When the locals did not get a proper response and the authorities did not take any concrete step to fix the road dotted with potholes despite repeated appeals, frustrated by the deteriorating condition of the road the locals arranged funds for repairing the road and after collecting enough funds, the residents started repairing the roads themselves.
