Assam karate champions receive rousing welcome in Guwahati

Eight athletes from Assam arrived at Guwahati after winning a medal at the recently held 11th World Youth Cup Karate Championship and Training Camp. The team arrived at the Guwahati
Eight athletes from Assam arrived at Guwahati after winning a medal at the recently held 11th World Youth Cup Karate Championship and Training Camp.
The team arrived at the Guwahati airport where they were welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd of families, well wishers and members of the United Karate Association.
The team consists of eight players namely Hemphu Bongjang, Nilav Nayan Thakuria, Saurav Kumar Gogoi, Akanksha Konwar, Ishita Kashyap, Punit Jakhwal, Ashis Talukdar and Ayushman Pachani.
Special welcome was given to 11 year old Hemphu Bongjang who won a medal at the tournament. Athletes from 16 countries took part in the tournament.
Hemphu is also going to be a part of the Indian national team which is slated to participate in the Commonwealth Karate Championships scheduled to take place at Durban in South Africa in November this year.
