Assam Govt’s mega infra push in Barak valley: CM inaugurates 3 new bridges, devp projects

With a mega infrastructure push for development of a better transport ecosystem, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated as many as 3 newly constructed bridges worth more than Rs 159 crore.

The first bridge is built over the Barak River at Badrighat on the Silchar-Fulertal road built at a cost of Rs 58 crore.

The second bridge, which crosses the Barak River near Itkhola Ghat and connects Dudhpati with Silchar, was constructed at a cost of Rs 87 crore.

The third bridge, which crosses the River Sonai-Dungripar Road, was constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore. This is the first bridge giving road connectivity to over 7,000 people residing at Dungripar village in Sonai.

Some of these bridges will provide road connectivity to certain villages for the first time, said CM Sarma.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, CM Sarma wrote, “Our double engine Government is on a mission to build 1,000 bridges in Assam by 2026. Today, we have dedicated 3 new bridges to the people of Barak Valley, built at a cost of ₹159 cr. “

Earlier, CM Sarma while inaugurating the 2.6-kilometre-long Nilachal flyover in Maligaon, Guwahati said that the State government is working on war footing to enhance road infrastructure throughout the state.

The Chief Minister said that the Assam government will soon come up with as many as 21 flyovers and bridge projects across the state to improve road connectivity and ease traffic congestion.
