The Government of Assam will put some restrictions on buying and selling of land in the 8-kilometer area surrounding Bordowa ‘Batadrava Than’, a holy pilgrimage site located in Assam’s Nagaon district, the revered birthplace of 15th–16th century social reformer and proponent of neo-Vaishnavism Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today.
On the auspicious occasion of the 575th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva, Chief Minister Sarma visited the historic Batadrava Than and inaugurate the newly constructed auditorium, Sattriya sara, office complex to “Damodar Ata Tourist Guest House” at a cost of Rs. 22 crore.
Talking to media, CM Sarma said that the State Government has taken a few steps for the all-round development of the historic Batadrava Than.
CM Sarma said that the State government is considering placing some restrictions on the purchase and sale of land in the 8-kilometer radius surrounding it, providing a protective shield for the indeginious people of Assam. The government will discuss this with the Batadrava Than Management Committee and make a decision in the coming days.
The government is also designating the historic Batadrava Than as a heritage site, said CM Sarma.
The 575th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardeva was celebrated by the Assamese Vaishnavas community across the state.
Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva was born to Satyasandhya and Kusumbar Shiromani Bhuyan in Bardowa in 1371 AD and died in 1449 AD.
