Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on November 30 that every girl student pursuing post-graduation like MA, MCom, or MSc will receive a monthly allowance of Rs 1000.
“To relieve the burden of parents, this time the state government is planning to start a new scheme under which all girl students pursuing post-graduation like MA, MTech, Mcom, or MSc will be provided Rs 1000 a month,” the Assam CM said at the ceremonial distribution of scooters to meritorious students of the Higher Secondary Examination, 2022, under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme.
Sarma said that students pay for transportation to and from the university as well as tea or coffee, that is why the state government has taken this decision to give relief to their parents and ensure the students are not stressed.
The education department will launch a portal where all female postgraduate students can register their names in order to receive the financial assistance.
Sarma also mentioned that in the coming years, the same facility will be available to students pursuing their graduation.
The CM distributed scooters under the Dr Banikanta Kakati Merit Award scheme to students who passed first or higher secondary examinations conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council with 75%+ and 60%+ marks. As many as 6,052 boys and 29,748 girls have received the award from all over Assam.
