Assam Govt to distribute ration cards to 42.85 lakh new beneficiaries starting Jan 16

In an effort to improve food security in the state, Assam government will distribute ration cards for 42.85 lakh new beneficiaries of the state starting from January 16, announced Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today.
Addressing a press conference at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The state government will distribute ration cards for 42,85,745 new beneficiaries. If we go by the number of cards. If we go by the number of cards, the total number is 10,73,479 since each card will contain at least 4 members of a family.”
Currently, the state has 56 lakh ration card-holding households. With the addition of 10 lakh new ration cards, the total number will rise to 66 lakh, said CM Sarma.
Soon, the Chief Minister himself and his cabinet ministers will distribute the new ration cards to the beneficiaries across the state from between January 16-25.
Additionally, to provide financial support to women entrepreneurs in rural areas, CM Sarma has also announced to launch the scheme- Mahila Udyamita Achoni.
Under this initiative, the government will provide an initial grant of Rs 10,000 in the first year and Rs 12,500 in the second year. They will also recieve a loan of Rs 12,500 from the bank. The bank loan will have to be repaid by the beneficiary, said CM Sarma.
