Assam govt has disbursed ₹25.45 crores to 3,662 beneficiaries under Arogya Nidhi scheme: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that 7,689 CHD surgeries, 5 liver transplants and 50 bone marrow transplants have been done free of cost for children below 12 years under the ‘Snehasparsha’ scheme. Sarma also said that under the ‘Assam Arogya Nidhi’, government of Assam has disbursed ₹25.45 crores to as many as 3,662 beneficiaries.

The health minister in an event held at GMCH auditorium under ‘Snehasparsha’ and ‘Assam Arogya Nidhi’ said that the schemes have benefitted people from undergoing treatment like kidney, heart, bone marrow transplant etc.

Sarma said that the two path-breaking healthcare initiatives by the Assam government has proven beneficial to many people in the state.

Taking to Twitter, Sarma expressed his happiness and said, “How nice it feels to have been blessed with the opportunity to serve people. Feel humbled to recall that during my tenure as Health Minister we could complete 7689 CHD surgeries, 5 liver transplants and 50 bone marrow transplants free of cost for children below 12 years.”

The Health Minister further added, “Every month on 10th there will be a special screening camp to identify children who need help under Snehasparsha. Since 2012, under Assam Arogya Nidhi, Govt of Assam has disbursed ₹25.45 cr to 3662 beneficiaries.”

Sneha Sparsha is a striving public health initiative that aims at bearing expenditure of very high-end specialized treatment such as Thalassemia requiring Bone Marrow Transplant, Liver and Kidney transplant, and Cochlear Implant.

While ‘Assam Arogya Nidhi’ scheme provides financial assistance to BPL families and families having a monthly income of less than Rs. 10,000 for the treatment of certain diseases.
