The Assam government has announced the formation of different sub-committees which will look into various aspects of the upliftment of Assamese Muslims.
As per government notification, Padmashree Dr Iliyas ali will be heading the sub-committee on population stabilisation, while eminent journalist and editor-in-chief of Northeast Live channel Wasbir Hussain will be heading the sub committee on cultural identity.
Besides, Dr Syed Iftikar Ahmed will be heading the sub-committee on health.
It may be mentioned that a total of 7 sub-committees have been constituted by the Assam government for development of the Assamese Muslims.
On July 4, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met over 150 leading indigenous Muslim personalities from diverse fields and said they had all have agreed that population growth in some parts of the state is a threat to development.
After the meeting, Sarma told mediapersons that the participants agreed the rising population posed a major threat to the state’s development.
