After Assam’s Dhing express Hima Das performed impeccably in the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Finland and the recently-concluded 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, the Assam government has decided to reward a cash prize of Rs 1.60 crore to the sprint sensation for her outstanding performance.
While Hima won the 400m gold in Finland, creating history as India’s first athletics gold medallist in a global event, she bagged three medals on the Asian Games athletic tracks of Jakarta – a gold in 4x400m relay and two silver medals in 400m and 4x400m mixed relay.
It is to be mentioned that Hima will be rewarded Rs 50 lakh for each of her gold medals and Rs 30 lakh each for the silver medals.
All the medal winners of the recently-concluded Asian Games were today felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The players present at the ceremony expressed happiness over being felicitated and appreciated the government initiatives in the field of sports.
Hima, who landed in New Delhi yesterday from Jakarta, will arrive in Guwahati on September 7, following which a felicitation programme will be organised at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra at 5 in the evening.
