A 13-year-old girl has reportedly committed suicide after allegedly not finding her name in both the draft NRC and the additional draft exclusion lists.
The minor girl thought that the draft exclusion list, that has over 1 lakh names was the final published NRC and since her name did not surface in the list, she resorted to the harsh step.
The relatives claimed that the minor’s name also did not appear in the draft NRC published in 2018. However, without knowing that the list published on Wednesday is an additional draft exclusion list and not the final NRC, the minor hanged herself.
According to media reports, the girl’s father went to the nearest NRC Seva Kendra on Wednesday to check the name of his daughter.
Darrang SP Amrit Bhuyan, however, said the suicide has no link with the NRC. He further informed that the investigation will begin soon.
