The first batch of COVID-19 vaccines for Assam and Meghalaya has arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday evening.
According to sources, the flight carrying the vaccine consignment from Serum Institute of India, Pune, weighing 732 kilograms, landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport around 5 pm in the evening.
The vaccines will be shifted to the cold storage unit set up adjacent to the airport.
The first consignment of Covishield developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, containing 478 boxes of vaccines, each weighing 32 kgs started for 13 locations in the country including Guwahati.
In the primary stage, over 1.5 lakh health and frontline workers will be administered vaccination.
The first phase of COVID-19 vaccination will start across the country on January 16.
