Assam final NRC draft released; 2.89 crore people find place in final draft

The final draft of the NRC is finally out. Of the total 3,29,91,384 applicants, 2,89,83,677 people made the cut in the final draft with 40,07,707 names excluded in the final draft.

The final draft NRC was released at the NRC headquarters in Guwahati today by Registrar General of India, Sailesh in the presence of State NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela, and Joint secretary Home, Satyendra Garg.

Significantly, both Sailesh and Garg reiterated that this is just a draft NRC and not the final list and no one would be sent to detention camps basing on this draft. Besides, ample scope will be given for submission of claims and objections.

Garg also added that none should resort to mischief following the release of this draft and any attempt to mislead people will be dealt with sternly.

At 10 am today the final draft NRC was released at the NRC headquarters in presence of Registrar General of India Sailesh and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs Satyendra Garg and can be viewed simultaneously in 2500 seva kendras besides online.

Significantly, the state’s NRC draft list runs into a whopping 22 lakh pages. Hard copies of the list are being made available in each of the 2,500 NRC Seva Kendras of the state.

Besides the list can be viewed online on the official website of NRC Assam and received through SMS services by those who have registered their numbers.

Meanwhile, tight security arrangements are in place across the State. 220 Companies of Central Armed Police Force are in the State to thwart any untoward incident.

Security has been beefed up across the state to maintain law and order, with district deputy commissioners and superintendents of police being directed to maintain a strict vigil.

Vulnerable areas have been identified by superintendents of police in their respective districts and the situation is closely monitored to prevent any untoward incident, specially those arising out of rumour-mongering.
