Ace pugilist and Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain cruised to the quarterfinals of the women’s light middleweight category with an easy 5-0 win against Ariana Nicholson at the Commonwealth Games.
Lovlina outpunched the New Zealand pugilist Ariana Nicholson in the 70kg competition. Lovlina, who was knocked out in the first round in the Gold Coast edition, attacked from the word go, using a combination of punches.
She will now face Rosie Eccles of Wales in the quarterfinals.
And another Daughter of Assam is set to make her presence felt at the Commonwealth Games today.
Popi Hazarika is all set to compete in the weightlifting event in the 59 kg category. Popi who hails from the Sivasagar district comes from a humble family and her debut in the international arena has brought a great sense of thrill to her family members.
Already the villagers are performing special prayers at the local Naamghar ahead of her event today.
Meanwhile, Popi Hazarika shared a video on social media where she sought everyone’s blessings and best wishes ahead of today’s match.
