Medical services in Assam have taken a hit, as doctors across the State are on a 24-hour strike in protest against the lynching of a senior doctor at Teok Tea Estate in Assam.
The Assam chapter of the Indian Medical Association has called for the state-wide protest on Tuesday to demand proper security for doctors. The strike started from 6 am in the morning.
Guwahati: Medical College Teachers’ Association & Junior Doctors’ Association held protest over death of doctor, Deben Dutta. He was beaten to death by a tea garden worker’s family&others, allegedly after the worker died during treatment at a hospital in Teok Tea Garden.

A delegation of the Indian Medical Association led by its national President Dr Santanu Sen will reach Assam today and meet the victim – Dr Deben Dutta’s family and authorities of the Teok Tea Estate.
Later, the IMA delegation will also hold meetings with the officials of the Assam Government in Guwahati today.
Meanwhile, the All Assam Nurses’ Association has extended its support to the State-wide strike by doctors in Assam.
The nurses across the State will wear black badges during the course of the 24-hour strike called by the Indian Medical Association.
The incident that took place at Teok Tea Estate in Jorhat, couple of days back, where an unruly mob thrashed to death the Tea Estate doctor – Dr Deben Dutta, has left the entire region in shock and disbelief.
