Assamese film director Arunjit Borah’s short film ‘Zibah’ (Scar) has been selected for the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
The film will be shown from April 15 to May 15 and is part of Australia’s biggest annual celebration of films from India and the subcontinent. The cast of the film includes Helly Shah, Barkha Bist Sengupta, Ram Gopal Bajaj, Riju Bajaj, Shivani Sopori, and Achal Katwal.
Arunjit Borah is originally from Dibrugarh, Assam. Borah’s ‘Zibah’ has already been showcased in several international film festivals, including Nepal International Film Festival, Golden Jury International Film Festival (GJIFF), Beyond Border International Festival, New Jersey Indian & International Film Festival (NJIFF), and Best of India Short Film Festival.
‘Zibah’ is a poignant tale of Erum, a college-going girl who dreams of winning a dance competition and pursuing a medical career. However, her closest kin, including her grandmother Shagufta and father Ali, are determined to marry her off to a London-based banker proposed by their close acquaintance Maulana, with a condition that she must be ‘pure.’ The film explores themes of humanity, torment, religious beliefs, and above all, sacrifice.
