Central Water commission has issued flood advisory alert in Golaghat as it is suspected that heavy rainfall in upper catchment of river Dhansiri may lead to rise in the water
Central Water commission has issued flood advisory alert in Golaghat as it is suspected that heavy rainfall in upper catchment of river Dhansiri may lead to rise in the water level by 20-40 cm within the next 10 to 12 hours and about 20 to 40 cm in the next 24 hours at Numaligarh.
The advisory also warns people of flood in low lying areas of Dhansiri River. As intimated earlier, landslide leading to formation of artificial lake upstream on the Doyang River can further worsen the situation bringing more water into the Doyang and Dhansiri rivers, if it breaches.
Meanwhile, heavy vehicles are still not allowed to ply on the NH 37 at Numaligarh in Assam where light vehicles are being allowed to ply. Heavy vehicles are being diverted to the National Highway No 39 instead.
Heavy floods caused by the Dhansiri river in the Numaligarh area has washed away a portion of the four lane highway bridge at Bosapothar. A portion of a National Highway has also been washed away in the torrential flood waters.
