The entry of Congress and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has been banned in 37 tea gardens of Assam under Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha seat, the Mangaldai branch of Assam Tea Mazdoor Union said on Monday.
The decision to ban the entry of Congress and BPF leaders into their area was taken during a meeting held at Barangajuli tea garden in the presence of representatives of 37 tea gardens.
Tea Mazdoor Sangh has alleged that the Congress and BPF have done nothing for the development of their area and only came to their area to ask for votes during election season.
Mangaldai Unit Secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP Santiuse Kujur was also present at the meeting.
The Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency, one of the newly created seats post delimitation process out of the erstwhile Mangaldai seat, will go to polls in the second phase on April 26.
A total of six candidates have filed the nomination for the Udalguri-Darrang Lok Sabha seat. BJP’s Dilip Saikia, BPF’s Durga Das Boro, from Congress, former parliamentarian and senior advocate, Madhab Chandra Rajbongshi filed their nominations. The Naba Sarania led Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) candidate Dr. Swarna Devi have also filed nomination for the Udalguri-Darrang Lok Sabha seat. Jitendra Chaliha from Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) and Abul Kasem from Republican Party of India (RPI) are also in the fray from the Udalguri-Darrang seat.
