Assam CM Sonowal inaugurates state’s first heliport in Majuli

In a boost to tourism infrastructure in Majuli, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday inaugurated the state’s first heliport in the river island district, represented by the Sonowal in the state assembly.

The heliport in Majuli, with the facility of simultaneous landing of three helicopters, was constructed at an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh.

The Chief Minister on the occasion also inaugurated a guest house at Garmur.

Speaking to media persons, Sonowal said that the heliport was built to boost tourism in Majuli, which has a distinct identity as the world’s largest river island.

He said that the state government made dedicated efforts to position Majuli as an important tourist destination and expressed hope that the new heliport would significantly facilitate tourist flow to Majuli.

“With the aim to develop tourism infrastructure and attract foreign as well as domestic tourists to Majuli, CM Shri @sarbanandsonwal inaugurated the state’s 1st Heliport and a Guest House at Garamur of the river island district,” the chief minister’s office tweeted.
