Assam: CM Sarma defends The Kashmir Files’ tax-free status, lambasts Kejriwal’s remarks

There is no denying the fact that the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been hailed by one and all across the country, and has also been a subject of debate

There is no denying the fact that the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ has been hailed by one and all across the country, and has also been a subject of debate by the opposition. The Assam Government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced tax free release of the movie across the state. The move, however, did not go well with the opposition which termed it as mere propaganda.

Now, amid all the war of words, Chief Minister Sarma has given his first reactions on the entire issue. Addressing the media, the Assam Chief Minister said it was about time Indian directors make good movies which have a lasting impact on the minds of the audience. He cited the examples of cult Assamese classics like ‘Joimoiti’ and ‘Shiraj’ and said movies of such genre should be made by directors.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Sarma added that while the government does not make movies, it would not fail to encourage ones that are good.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma took strong exceptions to the latest statements made by his Delhi counterpart, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on the The Kashmir Files. Kejriwal had mocked the makers of the movie to upload it on YouTube for everyone to watch it free.

Now, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while taking a dig at Kejriwal, said that it was the prerogative of the government to make the movie tax free, but the Delhi Chief Minister has no right to mock the movie or its makers.
