Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday paid his last respects to Barpeta Satra Burha Sattriya Basistha Dev Sarma at the funeral
Speaking to the media, CM Sarma expressed his condolences and said that the demise of the Burha Sattriya is a great loss to the Assamese society.
CM Sarma urged the younger generation to take forward the art and culture of Assam especially Satriya culture by being inspired by the ideals of Basishta Dev Sarma.
Taking to Twitter CM Sarma wrote, “হে যদুপতি মই মূঢ়মতি নাজানো সেৱা তোমাৰ। কেৱল তোমাৰ চৰণ পংকজে শৰণ কৰিলো সাৰ॥ মহাপুৰুষ দুজনাৰ একান্ত অনুগামী, অসমীয়া লোক-সংস্কৃতিৰ অক্লান্ত সাধক, বৰপেটা সত্ৰৰ পৰম শ্ৰদ্ধাৰ বুঢ়াসত্ৰীয়া বশিষ্ঠ দেৱশৰ্মাদেৱৰ মহাপ্ৰস্থানে অসমীয়া সমাজ জীৱনত এক বৃহৎ শূন্যতাৰ সৃষ্টি কৰিলে।”
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, MP Abdul Khaleque and several other ministers and officials.
Burha Sattriya Basistha Dev Sarma passed away on October 22 at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) due to old age ailments.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
