Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Attends Bhutan’s National Day as Chief Guest, Big Honour for Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wished the people of Bhutan on the occasion of 117th National Day.
Bhutan is marking its 117th National Day today. Bhutan is in a festive mood to celebrate its national day today with Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief guest.
Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma along with his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma on Tuesday morning arrived at the Changlimithang Ground in Thimphu to attend the National Day celebrations.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wished the people of Bhutan on the occasion. Taking to social media, CM Dr Sarma shared a video depicting the serene beauty of Bhutan and its iconic monuments.
Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote, “Best wishes to His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and to the wonderful people of the Kingdom on Bhutan National Day. The people of Bhutan share a civilisational bond with Bharat and together we will scale new heights of development in the coming days. I hope that Bhutan continues with its developmental efforts keeping environment as the fulcrum of all its policy decisions”.
His majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck delivered his customary annual address to the nation on the occasion.
Dr Sarma arrived at Thimphu on Monday evening to a rousing reception and shortly thereafter he and his team comprising top officials and industry representatives hosted the Advantage Assam 2.0 business meet.
As the meeting was in progress in the high profile presence of Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay, the foreign minister and several other ministers and Bhutanese business leaders, king Wangchuk surprised everyone by walking in to the meeting unannounced. Dr Sarma greeted his Majesty, later describing the gesture as a great honour.
Taking to social media, CM Sarma highlighted Assam’s ongoing transformation in infrastructure development and the emerging opportunities for trade and investment partnerships. Talking about the Advantage Assam 2.0 roadshow in Thimphu yesterday, the Assam CM stated that the event witnessed participation from over 100 entrepreneurs, business leaders, and senior officials from the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Taking to X, CM Dr Sarma, wrote “Under the exemplary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and His Majesty the Druk Gyalpo, both our nations are united by a common quest for progress and prosperity. Given Assam’s close geographical linkage with Bhutan, we are presented with numerous opportunities, ranging from closer cooperation in the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City, energy generation, healthcare, tourism and skill development. I am confident that Assam will play a pivotal role in strengthening the timeless bond between Bharat and Bhutan”.
Later today, Dr Sarma will call on Prime Minister Tobgay and have lunch with him. In the afternoon, Dr Sarma will have an audience with King Wangchuk at Tashicho Dzong, the seat of power in Bhutan, where his majesty meets foreign dignitaries. Dr Sarma will be led into the gorgeous building in a traditional procession.
On Wednesday, December 18, CM Sarma will meet the 4th King of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Later in the day, CM Sarma will be given a presentation by Dr Lotay Tshering, Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City. The same night CM Dr Sarma will attend a Royal banquet. The Assam CM will depart from Bhutan for India on December 19.
