A Class 9 student of a school in Assam died after he was allegedly assaulted by four Class 10 students.
According to reports just coming in, the incident took place inside the classroom of Padum Pukhuri High School in Darrang district today morning.
The deceased has been identified as Bhabesh Deka, a resident of Senapati Para in Darrang district.
Just before the incident today, the deceased student had informed his father last night that a few seniors were trying to pick up a fight with him.
According to the deceased’s father, the four boys were quarrelling with his son and often targeting him and picking on him.
Speaking to the media, a teacher said, “After the second period, we heard some loud arguments. Soon we got to know that one student has collapsed. We immediately rushed to the classroom and called for an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital. He was later referred to Mangaldai Civil Hospital due to his critical condition.”
“He went to school in the morning, and a few hours later, we received a call from the school management informing us that there had been a scuffle between Bhabesh and a few classmates. He was injured, and soon after, we learned that he had been declared dead upon arrival at the hospital,” a relative of the deceased said.
Locals of the area and the family of the deceased gathered at the school premises, demanding action.
Police arrived at the school to calm the people and investigate the matter.
So far, it is not confirmed if any arrest has been made.
