Assam celebrates 72nd Independence Day; CM Sonowal allays fears over inclusion of names in NRC

Assam too joined in the 72nd Independence Day celebrations with a centrally held program at the Assam Veterinary Science College playground in Khanapara.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the Assam government is determined to make the state free from foreigners, corruption, terrorism and pollution.

Chief minister Sonowal on the occasion also thanked the people of the state for extending co-operation to carry out the mega exercise of publishing NRC. The chief minister further thanked the police and government for their relentless service during the exercise.

The chief minister reiterated that names of no genuine Indian citizens will be left out from the National Register of Citizens. Sonowal further maintained that the government will keep a strong eye so that names of no foreigners are included in the NRC.

Meanwhile, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also paid tributes to the martyrs of India’s freedom movement at the Shraddhanjali Kanon park.
