Several significant decisions were made during a cabinet meeting of the Assam government, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, held yesterday. One of the key approvals was the re-engagement of 451 part-time faculty members to fill vacant posts in government engineering colleges and polytechnics across Assam under Rule 3F. This move aims to ensure uninterrupted academic activities in these institutions.
The cabinet also sanctioned Rs 150 crore for infrastructure development at the polytechnic colleges in Tingkhang, Hajo, and Majuli, further enhancing the quality of education in the state.
In addition, the cabinet approved the release of salaries for 131 teachers appointed by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), a step aimed at ensuring the continued education of students in Karbi Anglong.
On the transportation front, the cabinet gave the green light to transfer 8 bighas of government land to the Northeast Frontier Railways for constructing a doubling railway line between Azara and Kamakhya, which is expected to boost regional railway capacity and create employment opportunities for local youth.
To address pay scale anomalies for Computer Grade-II, Grade-I, and Head Computer under the Directorate of Land Records & Surveys, the cabinet approved a proposal for their correction.
Lastly, in an effort to reduce student dropouts at the secondary level, the cabinet approved the procurement of bicycles for Class IX students in government provincial schools for the academic year 2024-25, encouraging regular attendance.
